The University of Warwick is hiring a Research Fellow within the Warwick Medical School at the Warwick Clinical Trials Unit, specifically for the Surgery, Pain and Rehabilitation group. The successful candidate will work alongside Professor Toby Smith and the team to develop a prehabilitation and post-operative rehabilitation programme for individuals with Degenerative Cervical Myelopathy. Responsibilities include conducting qualitative interviews with patients and health professionals, leading a Delphi survey, and convening and analysing a consensus workshop. The main focus involves data collection and qualitative analysis, as well as collaborating with the team and Patient Representatives to create dissemination materials and academic papers to share the project findings.

Who can apply

Applicants must possess either a PhD or relevant subject area expertise in mixed-methods research or qualitative research methods. A track record in independent research is required, preferably within health services research and involving various stakeholder groups. Essential qualifications include proven written communication skills, experience in writing for publication, presentation capabilities, and strong interpersonal and communication skills. Individuals who are near submission of their PhD or have not yet had it conferred may still be considered for an offer at the Research Assistant level on grade 5, with subsequent promotion to Research Fellow upon receipt of evidence confirming the successful award of the PhD.

What you get

The position offers a salary between £35,608 and £46,049 per annum. The appointment is a full-time, fixed-term contract based on site. In addition to remuneration, the role provides an opportunity to build skills and expertise in qualitative research methods while working within a scientific environment that includes access to clinical trials and complex intervention development expertise.

Key dates

The closing date for applications is 15 November 2026 at 11:59pm UK time. Interviews will be held at a later date to be confirmed.
