Research Assistant - Marie Curie Doctoral Candidate (Positive Displacement Compressors)
Overview
City St George's, University of London is recruiting a Doctoral Candidate for HeatMinds, a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions Industrial Doctoral Network funded by Horizon Europe. The network works on decarbonising industrial heat through innovative high-temperature heat pump technology. The post is a Research Assistant role in the Department of Engineering, full time and fixed term, on site, and the candidate will pursue a PhD project called Expanding the Operating Envelope of Positive Displacement Compressors. The aim is to contribute to efficient, reliable heat pump systems that upgrade low-grade waste heat for industrial use.
What you will do
The candidate will carry out doctoral research on positive displacement compressor technologies for industrial high-temperature heat pumps. Duties include developing and validating compressor models, analysing performance and optimisation strategies, contributing to project deliverables and publications, presenting at conferences, taking part in dissemination and outreach, collaborating with academic and industrial partners across Europe, joining network-wide training events and helping meet project milestones.
Who can apply
Applicants should hold a first degree or equivalent in mechanical engineering, energy engineering, thermofluids or a related discipline, with knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics. Experience in modelling, simulation or data analysis is desirable. Strong analytical, communication and teamwork skills and the ability to work independently and with international collaborators are essential. Under the programme's mobility rule, applicants must not have lived or carried out their main activity in the United Kingdom for more than 12 months in the 36 months before recruitment.
