Based at the South Kensington Campus with hybrid work arrangements available, the role is funded by the UK Advanced Research + Invention Agency through its Massively Scalable Neurotechnology Programme. The position focuses on an interdisciplinary project to develop electronics-free acoustic neural interfaces for minimally invasive, transcranial neural monitoring through vascular modelling, microfabrication, and biomimetic testbed engineering.
What you get
The position offers a sector-leading salary and remuneration package ranging from £45,399 to £59,484 per annum, along with 43 days off a year. Successful candidates join a world-leading institution and have the opportunity to work on a pioneering, multidisciplinary programme at the interface of bioelectronics, vascular biomechanics, medical robotics, and neuroscience alongside leading research groups.
Requirements
Applicants must hold a PhD, or be close to completion, in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Bioengineering, or a closely related discipline. Candidates need experience working in a research environment with a strong publication record or contributions to high-quality research projects, as well as experience collaborating within multidisciplinary teams and with academic, clinical, or industrial partners. Essential qualifications include hands-on experience in the design, fabrication, and experimental integration of microfluidic devices or tissue-mimetic vascular phantoms, along with experience in additive manufacturing techniques such as SLA or DLP 3D printing. Furthermore, applicants must possess knowledge of vascular biomechanics, haemodynamics, fluid-structure interaction principles, research methods, and quantitative experimental techniques including data analysis, validation, and statistical approaches.
