Overview
The Psychonomic Society is looking for an Executive Director to lead it through its next phase of growth. The Society has more than 4,000 researchers, eight scientific journals and a well-regarded annual meeting, and it advances research and communication in cognitive psychology and allied sciences. It has a 66-year history.
The Executive Director provides strategic and operational leadership, working with the Governing Board, committees, management team and members. Responsibilities include carrying out the strategic vision with the Board, supporting decision-making, managing relationships with external partners, academic institutions, nonprofits and scientific organisations, overseeing day-to-day operations and financial administration, monitoring budgets, strengthening membership engagement and retention, finding opportunities for membership and financial growth, representing the Society to members, partners and the media, and supporting volunteers and committees.
Requirements
The Society wants proven operational and financial oversight, strong relationship-building and communication, success in membership engagement, retention and growth, nonprofit management experience, strategic planning, the ability to adapt complex information for different audiences, initiative, experience working with volunteers and a professional presence. A Certified Association Executive designation or comparable experience would help. Familiarity with scientific membership organisations and psychological sciences is an advantage, as is experience using industry partnerships for conference engagement. The Society encourages applicants from diverse backgrounds, and the Director is expected to prioritise diversity, equity and inclusion.
