Postdoctoral Researcher - Immunotherapy and Neuropathic Pain
Overview
The University of Oxford invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher position within the Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences, located at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Headington, Oxford. This full-time, fixed-term position is part of a project funded by Medical Research UK that investigates the cellular and molecular immune mechanisms driving neuropathic pain caused by anti-GD2 immunotherapy in neuroblastoma treatment. The appointee will join the Peripheral Neuroimmunity and Pain Lab, working alongside a multidisciplinary team led by Dr Alexander Davies and various expert collaborators.
Who can apply
Candidates with an academic background in either neuroscience or immunology are welcome to submit applications for this role. Applicants should note that the position involves preclinical research activities, including processing human blood samples, but is not a patient-facing role.
What you get
The position offers a salary ranging from £40,178 to £48,700 per annum on Research Grade 7, though less experienced candidates may alternatively be appointed at Research Grade 6 with a salary range of £36,360 to £42,434 per annum and adjusted duties. The appointment is fixed-term until the 30th of June 2028. Training in immune-phenotyping will be provided as needed, and researchers will receive mentorship opportunities alongside support for future grant and fellowship applications.
Requirements
The primary responsibilities involve establishing a behavioural assay for spontaneous pain using a mouse model of neuroblastoma to investigate immune mechanisms triggered by anti-GD2 antibodies. The researcher will test new antibody derivatives using in vitro and in vivo assays alongside collaborators, and process and analyse blood samples from patients undergoing therapy. Additional duties include mentoring junior lab members, supervising students, participating in journal clubs, and attending annual networking and project meetings.
Key dates
The deadline for applications is 12.00 midday on Wednesday the 11th of November 2026. Interviews will be conducted as soon as possible following the closing date.
