Overview

The Oxford Centre for Immuno-Oncology at the University of Oxford is appointing a Postdoctoral Research Scientist in cancer vaccinology. The research group focuses on new cancer immunotherapies, mainly vaccines designed to stimulate the immune system to target and kill cancer cells. The project belongs to the GO-PRECISE programme, which develops preventative vaccines against cancer. GSK and Oxford launched the PRECISE Alliance in 2025 to explore precancers in depth, identify their molecular vulnerabilities and develop ways to intercept them, first in people at highest risk and later in the wider population. The alliance spans basic science, immunology and clinical development.

The post is full time and fixed term until 31 December 2027, funded by GSK, and is based on site in Oxford.

What you will do

The postholder manages their own research and related administration, including small-scale project management, develops and refines mechanistic hypotheses, designs and optimises experiments, and interprets complex datasets in the context of tumour immunology and cancer vaccinology. They support vaccine development studies using in vivo and in vitro methods, help prepare reports and journal articles and present findings at meetings.

Requirements

Applicants must hold, or be close to completing, a PhD or DPhil in a relevant discipline such as biological sciences or immunology. Experience with immunological methods such as co-culture assays, multicolour flow cytometry, ELISA and in vivo tumour models is expected, along with familiarity with molecular biology techniques including PCR and Western blotting.

What you get

The salary is 39,424 to 47,779 GBP per year at Research Grade 7, with a discretionary range up to 53,483 GBP, inclusive of the Oxford University Weighting of 1,730 GBP per year.
