Overview

The University of Liverpool is offering a fixed-term postdoctoral position within the Department of Chemistry, School of Physical Sciences, Faculty of Science and Engineering. The successful researcher will join an interdisciplinary team led by Professor Alessandro Troisi, focusing on a project that combines physics-based, data-centric, and experimental methods for the digital development of materials with optoelectronic properties. The appointment is for a duration of 24 months.

Who can apply

Applicants are sought who possess expertise in theoretical photophysics and have a track record of impactful research outputs in relevant fields. Candidates must be able to interact effectively with colleagues holding complementary skills and demonstrate a willingness to combine theoretical, computational, and experimental research. The institution encourages applications from individuals of minoritised genders and ethnic backgrounds, those living with a disability, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Requirements

Candidates must have experience in both the computation of optical properties of molecules and the computation of non-radiative rates of molecules or solids. Additionally, familiarity with data analysis, including working with large datasets, is essential. Desirable attributes for the role include experience with the experimental characterization of photophysical rates and the application of data science to the electronic properties of molecules. Applicants are expected to clearly demonstrate how they meet these criteria in their application materials.

What you get

The position is remunerated with a salary between £40,704 and £46,970 per annum at Grade 7. Individuals who are still awaiting the official award of their PhD at the time of appointment will initially be placed at Grade 6, spine point 30, with the salary increasing to Grade 7, spine point 31 upon written confirmation of the PhD award. During the tenure, researchers have the opportunity to expand their skills into areas such as physical property measurement and digital methods.

Key dates

The closing date for applications is 26 November 2026 at 23:30.
