Postdoctoral Research Associate
Overview
The Centre for Clinical Brain Sciences at the University of Edinburgh is offering a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in the Mahad lab. The lab carries out basic science research on the mechanisms of neurodegeneration in multiple sclerosis, with a particular interest in mitochondria. It has developed several animal models to better understand the pathology of progressive multiple sclerosis and to identify drugs that might protect nerve cells.
The postholder will characterise mitochondrial function and mitochondrial DNA at the level of single cells in an animal model of chronic neurodegeneration, working in collaboration with Professor Ken Smith at University College London. A skill set for assessing mitochondrial function and mitochondrial DNA at single-cell level in brain tissue is highly desirable. The candidate will also have the chance to work closely with researchers at the Dementia Research Institute, led by Professor Siddharthan Chandran. The role combines supervised work with research that grows from the postdoctoral researcher's own initiative. The work is based mainly at the Chancellor's Building at Little France in Edinburgh.
What you get
The post is full time at 35 hours per week and fixed term for 12 months, at Grade 7 with pay of £41,064 to £48,822 per annum. The University of Edinburgh is also open to considering requests for hybrid working, on a non-contractual basis, that mixes remote and regular on-campus work. It offers a range of policies and benefits intended to support flexibility, and opportunities for early career researchers to develop.
