Overview

The University of Edinburgh is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate within the School of Neurological and Cardiovascular Sciences and the Centre for Cardiovascular Science. The successful candidate will conduct scientific research examining indoor air pollution characteristics and their health effects as part of the broader multi-disciplinary UKRI research hub project known as INHABIT. This position requires 35 hours per week and is based on-site at the Edinburgh BioQuarter. The appointment is fixed-term for 18 months, with a potential extension contingent upon funding availability.

Requirements

Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent qualification in a related biomedical field, such as toxicology, physiology, or air pollution and particle research. Candidates need to possess experience in relevant laboratory techniques, which may include particle characterisation, acellular assays of oxidative potential, in vivo rodent models, organ bath preparations, histology, and signalling pathway measurement assays including flow cytometry, fluorescence assays, and ELISAs for inflammatory cytokines. Prior experience with public interaction or volunteer recruitment for research studies is considered advantageous. Additionally, the role calls for the capability to function independently and collaboratively, assist with project management duties like purchasing research consumables and liaising with collaborating laboratories, and demonstrate enthusiasm for manuscript preparation and supporting grant applications.
