Postdoctoral Research Assistant
Overview
The Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics at the University of Oxford, working with the Kavli Institute for Nanoscience Discovery, is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Assistant. The post is full time and fixed term for 32 months, based on site in the United Kingdom. The department carries out discovery science that reassembles physiological processes from the molecular to the systems level, bridging translational medicine and the physical and life sciences.
The project investigates how genetic changes linked to Parkinson's disease alter mitochondrial function and metabolism in human neurons. The postholder will extend and use focused CRISPRi and CRISPRa sgRNA libraries in neurons derived from induced pluripotent stem cells, validate priority findings in dopaminergic neurons, and characterise cellular responses with high-content imaging, quantitative phenotyping and metabolic assays.
What you will do
Key responsibilities include maintaining iPSC cultures and differentiating cell lines into dopaminergic or cortical neurons, carrying out medium-throughput experiments with small-molecule treatments and CRISPR-based genetic perturbations, creating and maintaining sgRNA libraries, applying and optimising cellular, molecular, imaging and metabolic assays, and selecting, adapting and developing experimental protocols.
What you get
The salary range is 39,424 to 45,212 GBP per year. Benefits include a contributory pension scheme, 38 days of annual leave, childcare services, family leave schemes, cycle and electric car loan schemes, an employee assistance programme, membership of social and sports clubs, and discounted bus travel with season ticket loans.
How to apply
Applicants submit an online application with a supporting statement explaining how they meet the selection criteria, a CV and the details of two referees. Applications are particularly welcome from women and from black and minority ethnic candidates, who are under-represented in academic posts at Oxford.
Key dates
The closing date is 12 noon on 19 October 2026. Interviews are likely in the week commencing 26 October 2026, face to face or on Microsoft Teams depending on location.
About University of Oxford
The University of Oxford is a collegiate research university in Oxford, England. Teaching there is documented from the late eleventh century, which makes it one of the oldest universities in the world, although its exact founding date is unknown. It has no single central campus, and its buildings are spread throughout the city. Every student belongs to a college, and the colleges operate alongside the university's academic departments, which are grouped into divisions.
