NYU Research Assistant Job 2026: Part-Time Opportunity Paying $30 Per Hour
Overview
New York University is looking for a part-time Research Assistant to support the Deconstructing School Pushout project at the NYU Silver School of Social Work. The project studies factors and pathways linked to school pushout, including suspensions, expulsions and contact with the legal system. It explores how young people with these experiences understand and navigate structural factors such as neighborhood and school disinvestment and access to resources, and it also examines school staff perspectives and organizational practices.
The role is based at 1 Washington Square North, New York, with both in-person and virtual work. It pays $30 per hour for about 3 to 8 hours per week, and the expected start date is as soon as possible.
What you get
The assistant works closely with the Principal Investigator and research team, meeting weekly to review completed work, plan the next week and discuss professional development goals. Duties include refining interview protocols and consent forms, entering materials into Qualtrics, assisting with Institutional Review Board applications, supporting recruitment and enrollment, tracking participant incentives, conducting interviews, maintaining research databases and coding and analyzing data with MAXQDA, SPSS and STATA.
Requirements
Applicants should have a background in social work, psychology, sociology, anthropology or another social or behavioral science, plus experience or training in qualitative and quantitative methods. Interest in school pushout, the school-prison nexus, racial equity, structural racism or structural violence is required. Strong organization, attention to detail and clear communication within a team are needed, along with proficiency in, or willingness to learn, REDCap, Microsoft Office, Adobe and Qualtrics. Experience with STATA, SPSS, R or similar software is also listed.
Previous academic research experience is preferred, as are knowledge of descriptive statistics and thematic analysis, experience planning and implementing research projects, training in motivational interviewing, and familiarity with IRB procedures.
