Overview

The White Coat Waste Project (WCW) is hiring a Research and Investigations Assistant. WCW is a bipartisan nonprofit government watchdog that works to expose and reduce what it describes as wasteful government spending on animal experimentation. The organization says its work has helped rescue, redeem or spare about 29,000 animal lives, cut more than $99 million in wasteful spending and contribute to the abolition of at least 114 laboratories and experiments. The post is full-time and work-from-home, and candidates must be based in the United States and authorized to work there.

The role

The assistant works under the Research and Investigations Manager. Document work involves processing records from Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and other public-records investigations using procedures such as OCR, segmentation, searching and organizing. Research covers government databases, online sources, academic and scientific publications and spending records, and includes drafting, submitting and tracking FOIA and state public-records requests. The assistant enters and maintains information in WCW databases and tracking systems, where Airtable experience is an advantage, and reviews government records, laboratory documents and scientific publications to identify key findings and summarize them clearly for colleagues.

Requirements

WCW wants at least one year of professional or internship experience in areas such as research and investigations, journalism, issue advocacy, government or public policy, nonprofits, Capitol Hill or political campaigns. Strong candidates show research and investigative skill, attention to detail, organisation, analytical and summarization ability, resourcefulness, Microsoft Office skills, the ability to handle competing deadlines in a fast-paced remote setting, and interest in public policy, transparency, animal protection or politics.

What you get

The salary is $45,000 to $55,000 depending on experience. Benefits include health, dental and vision coverage, a 401(k), paid vacation and paid holidays.

How to apply

Applicants email a resume, cover letter, three references and salary requirements, using the subject line Research & Investigations Assistant. All required documents must be submitted to be considered. The position is not open to applicants seeking overseas remote work. No deadline is stated.
