Overview

Michigan State University's College of Nursing in East Lansing, Michigan, is hiring temporary Professional Aides to support nursing research grants. The role is on-call and described as remote-friendly, though the amount of remote work depends on the assigned grant. No previous experience is required, as faculty and staff train aides on each duty. The College's research covers symptom science, self-management of chronic conditions, health promotion and risk reduction, including online meditation training for caregivers of cancer patients, exercise applications and studies on stress and childhood obesity.

What you will do

Duties vary by project. They can include data collection and entry, data analysis, literature reviews, calendar and meeting management, note-taking, report preparation, proofreading, drafting communications and general office work. Aides may help faculty with grant procedures and reports, contact study participants, plan conference travel, organize events, take supplies to research sites and help prepare monthly budget reports. The job can involve frequently lifting objects of 50 pounds or more.

What you get

Pay ranges from $12.48 to $30 per hour depending on duties and grant funding. Hours average 20 to 40 per week, mainly Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with occasional evenings or weekends. Positions can last up to nine months with possible extension, and on-call employees can work up to 1,039 hours in a 12-month period. Some temporary roles may lead to longer-term support staff positions with benefits as research funding grows.

Who can apply

The College wants people with excellent organizational and time-management skills who are flexible, adaptable and willing to learn. Office, grant, budget or travel-planning experience is preferred but not required.

How to apply

Applicants submit a resume and cover letter through the university's employment system.
