Overview

Malmö University in Sweden is advertising employed doctoral positions for 2026. Most doctoral students in Sweden are employed by their universities, and the university explains that applicants generally need to win a vacant employed doctoral position. Employment brings a salary, paid vacation leave and the right to paid parental leave, and there are no admission or tuition fees for doctoral students admitted through the university. A full doctoral programme equals four years of full-time study, or 240 credits, with a licentiate degree available after two years, or 120 credits. Alternative financing for non-employed candidates is accepted only in special circumstances.

Current doctoral vacancies are a Doctoral Student in Organization Studies, published 4 June 2026 with a deadline of 14 August 2026; a Doctoral Student in International Migration and Ethnic Relations (IMER) focusing on survey studies of diversity and inclusion, published 29 June 2026 with a deadline of 31 August 2026; and a doctoral research project titled From Variability to Validation: Standardizing Multi-Omics of Oral Fluids for Reproducible Disease Signatures, published 9 July 2026 with a deadline of 31 August 2026. Doctoral subjects across the university include applied physics, biomedical science, computer science, criminology, global politics, interaction design, media and communication studies, pedagogy, social work, sport science and urban studies, among others.

Who can apply

Applicants must meet the general entry requirements: a second-cycle qualification, or at least 240 credits with at least 60 at second-cycle level, or substantially equivalent knowledge acquired elsewhere. Exemptions are possible in special cases. Each vacancy may add subject-specific requirements, and international doctoral positions are advertised in English.

How to apply

Applicants read the full advertisement, create or log into a user account on the university's recruitment platform, complete their profile and upload all required documents, since applications are assessed on registered qualifications and education. Submitted applications can be changed before the deadline. As a public authority, the university may have to disclose recruitment documents on request, and candidates with a protected identity apply by post in a double envelope marked SEKRETESS. Doctoral students, researchers and guest researchers can rent housing through the university.
