Overview

The School of Computer Science at the University of St Andrews is offering a full-time, permanent position for a Lecturer in Cyber Security within the United Kingdom. The role is designed for an emerging scholar who has the potential to build an internationally recognized research profile while delivering high-quality, research-led teaching in cyber security and broader computer science subjects. Candidates are expected to conduct original research, pursue external funding, and contribute to teaching and supervision across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

Who can apply

Applications are welcome from collegial candidates whose research background complements and extends the existing strengths of the School. Relevant areas of expertise include systems and network security, software security, applied cryptography, privacy-enhancing technologies, privacy in computer systems and computer communication, usable security, the security of emerging technologies, and the human, organisational, and societal dimensions of cyber security. The institution particularly encourages applications from women and individuals from the Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic community, as well as other protected characteristics that remain under-represented in academic posts at the university. Successful candidates must be able to demonstrate a right to work in the UK prior to starting employment, with visa sponsorship support available where required.

Requirements

Applicants must hold or be nearing completion of a PhD in cyber security, computer science, or a closely related discipline. Candidates need to demonstrate the capacity to deliver excellent teaching, supervise student research, and contribute to curriculum development. Essential qualifications also include an interest in knowledge exchange and a clear understanding of the processes involved in securing funding from research councils and other external sources.

The position offers a salary ranging from £47,389 to £58,226 per annum at Grade 7.
