Junior Market Data Analyst – Chartering
Overview
Kpler, a market intelligence company serving the commodities, energy and maritime sectors, is hiring a Junior Market Data Analyst for its Chartering team in the United Kingdom. The role is full time. The analyst helps ensure the quality and accuracy of the vessel, ownership and market data behind the Chartering products used by charterers, shipowners and brokers, working with datasets covering vessel ownership and characteristics, fixtures, cargo orders, vessel positions and shipping zones.
What you will do
The analyst monitors, validates and improves key datasets and investigates data gaps, inconsistencies and customer-reported issues through to resolution. Tasks include curating vessel ownership, commercial management and operator information, reviewing and benchmarking AI-parsed fixtures to find recurring extraction errors, using SQL on large datasets including cargo and AIS data, and using Python notebooks to build validation scripts and repeatable quality checks. The analyst also maintains chartering shipping zones and geographical mappings using tools such as QGIS, gives structured feedback to the Product, Data, Research, Engineering and AI and machine learning teams, turns individual issues into systematic improvements, contributes to new analytical views and algorithms, and helps establish data-quality metrics.
Requirements
Applicants need one to three years of experience in data analysis, market research, maritime and shipping, commodities or a related analytical role, with hands-on SQL and Python skills, strong Excel or Google Sheets skills, attention to detail and the ability to spot patterns in data. Knowledge of shipping, chartering or commodity markets, tanker or dry-bulk segments, and experience with machine-generated datasets are advantages. Kpler values curiosity about why data is wrong, a methodical approach and ownership of problems.
