Overview
United Planet is hiring a full-time, fully remote Program Manager who can work from anywhere in the world. United Planet is an international nonprofit headquartered in Boston, United States, that has spent more than 25 years working with community organizations in over 40 countries on global understanding, volunteer service, experiential learning and cross-cultural exchange. The Program Manager develops, coordinates and carries out its global and virtual programs, supervises a small team and strengthens partnerships worldwide. The position starts on October 1, 2026.
What the role involves
Duties include setting a strategic vision for international and virtual programs, leading program design and curriculum development, evaluating existing programs and spotting growth opportunities, and supervising the International Groups Coordinator, Partnerships Coordinator and International Program Coordinator. The manager also mentors staff, creates standard operating procedures, expands the international partner network, manages relationships with partners and host organizations, sets up partner evaluation and quality assurance, develops budgets, pricing models and forecasts, strengthens participant safety and emergency procedures, and oversees Virtual Group Quests.
Requirements
Candidates should have experience with international partners and cross-cultural settings, strong communication skills, and a record of assessing systems and introducing practical improvements. Understanding of participant safety and risk management is valued, especially from international travel, volunteer or cross-border work. Two or more years of progressive management experience in nonprofits, international development, higher education or global exchange programs is desirable, along with experience supervising and coaching staff. A bachelor's degree in international relations, nonprofit management, global studies, organizational leadership or a related field is ideal. Fluent English is required, and Spanish is particularly useful.
