Overview

The Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) has opened its 2026-2027 recruitment cycle for research roles across its global network. J-PAL is a research network that works with researchers and policymakers to generate evidence on poverty and development and turn it into policy and practice. Roles sit with J-PAL and with professors at affiliated institutions worldwide. Hiring happens all year, but many posts are filled during the annual drive.

For this cycle, two categories launch early: General Data Research Associate and General Field Research Associate. Data associates may collect and manage data, clean datasets, run quantitative analysis, support research design and implementation, prepare documentation and contribute to impact evaluations. Field associates may support field operations, coordinate research activities and local teams, assist with data collection, surveys and field experiments, monitor activities and make sure protocols are followed.

Who can apply

The drive is for qualified candidates interested in research and development employment in the network. Requirements differ by position, including degrees, technical skills, languages and location, so each posting should be read carefully. Relevant backgrounds include economics, development economics, statistics, data science, econometrics, public policy, political science, international development, social sciences and research methods. J-PAL has affiliated researchers and partners in different parts of the world.

How to apply

Applicants should follow the instructions in each individual posting. Applying during the drive can bring an application to the attention of several researchers and hiring managers.

Key dates

The early launch runs from September 8, 2026, to October 9, 2026. The full drive opens on November 25, 2026, with a final deadline of January 13, 2027. Interviews are expected from the end of January through spring 2027, and many positions begin around June, though start dates vary.
