INTERSOS Hiring Chief of Mission – Roster | Multiple Locations | Salary Up to €5,182

Overview

INTERSOS, a non-profit humanitarian organization assisting people affected by natural disasters and armed conflict, is recruiting for its Chief of Mission roster. The roster builds a pool of candidates for upcoming country-level assignments. The duty station depends on the country of assignment. The anticipated start date is 1 October 2026, with an initial 12-month contract.

What you will do

The Chief of Mission represents INTERSOS at country level and carries broad responsibility for strategy, programme delivery, resources, staff, representation, security and accountability. Tasks include analysing the political and humanitarian context, developing a country strategy, identifying funding and supporting fundraising with institutional and private donors, and overseeing country programmes through field visits. The role maintains relationships with authorities, donors and humanitarian organizations while protecting impartiality and independence. The Chief also leads the senior management team, supports staff performance management with the HR Coordinator, oversees financial management with the Finance Coordinator, works with logistics and procurement and with programme and MEAL teams, and holds final responsibility for security decisions, including the country security plan.

Requirements

Applicants need a university degree in project management, international affairs, development, international political economy or a related field, and at least eight years of leadership experience in humanitarian contexts. They should have worked with NGOs in developing countries, managed significant grants and international donors, and have experience in insecure environments including security planning and management. Proficiency in Word, Excel and internet-based systems is expected. Fluent French is essential and fluent English is preferred.

What you get

Monthly gross salary ranges from about €4,505 to €5,182. Benefits include shared guesthouse accommodation, medical insurance, and transportation and visa support. Staff receive 7 days of psychosocial and physical recovery leave every eight weeks, a €1,000 allowance and annual leave at 2.5 days per month.
