Overview

Solidaridad East and Central Africa is hiring a full-time Regional Communications Manager in Nairobi, Kenya. The manager leads regional communications, marketing, visibility and storytelling, reporting to the Managing Director, and works across countries, programmes and teams to turn priorities, evidence, results and learning into communications for donors, partners, governments, businesses, media and other stakeholders.

What the role involves

The manager develops the regional communications and marketing strategy and annual plan, leads brand positioning and reputation, and turns programme evidence into stories, publications and thought leadership. They direct digital platforms, social media, multimedia and media relations, advise the Managing Director and Regional Leadership Team on messaging, and work with Business Development on donor and partner communications such as pitch decks and capability statements. Other duties include strengthening internal communications, leading the regional communications function, building the capacity of country communications focal points, setting quality standards, overseeing budgets and external providers, and advising on sensitive issues and crisis communications.

Requirements

Applicants need a Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing or a related field; a Master's degree is an advantage. They should have 8 to 10 years of progressive experience in strategic communications, marketing, public relations, journalism or development communications, with at least three years in a managerial, regional or strategic communications role. Experience developing organisational or multi-country communications strategies, strong storytelling and writing, digital and media engagement, and advising senior leaders is expected. Work across multiple countries and cultures is highly desirable, and experience in international development, sustainability, agriculture or climate is an advantage.
