Overview

The GitLab Foundation is seeking a Managing Director, Collaborative Capital to lead its Funds team and join its leadership team. This senior-level role involves managing the strategy, development, and deployment of the Foundation’s grantmaking portfolio, attracting funding partners, and strengthening support for grantees. The position reports directly to the President and CEO.

Who can apply

Applicants must have 12 or more years of progressively responsible experience in philanthropy, consulting, social enterprise, venture capital, impact investing, technology, public policy, or related fields. Candidates need demonstrated experience launching, managing, or scaling philanthropic funds, grantmaking portfolios, or investment strategies. This is a fully remote role restricted to candidates located in the United States, and visa sponsorship is not available.

What you get

The position provides an annual salary between $170,000 and $200,000, with an approximate total compensation package of $215,000 to $265,000 including benefits. Benefits feature comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage for team members and dependents with full premium coverage, a 10 percent employer contribution to a 401(k) without requiring an employee match, and unlimited vacation, sick time, and paid time off.

Requirements

Candidates must possess strong knowledge of philanthropy, economic mobility, systems change, and evidence-based approaches to social impact. Applicants should bring an entrepreneurial mindset, strong analytical and communication skills, sound judgment, and experience building high-performing teams. Familiarity with AI-enabled tools, emerging technologies, and data-driven decision-making is also valued. The role requires approximately 20 percent travel.
