Overview

FreeWill is hiring a People Operations Manager (Benefits & Payroll) for a full-time remote position in the United States. The role owns employee benefits, payroll, HR systems and compliance, and covers the whole employee lifecycle from onboarding to offboarding. It sits in the People department and reports to the People and Culture Lead.

What you get

The salary is $95,000 to $105,000 per year, plus equity. FreeWill follows a transparent pay policy and does not negotiate individual salaries. FreeWill can hire in most US states but not currently in Alabama, Colorado or Louisiana. The company also has staff in Brazil, Canada and Pakistan. It does not sponsor work visas, so applicants must already be authorised to work in their country.

Requirements

Candidates need at least six years of benefits and payroll administration experience, including running programmes end to end, and strong knowledge of ACA, COBRA, ERISA/401(k), HIPAA, FMLA and qualifying life events. Experience leading annual open enrollment, payroll reconciliation, HRIS or PEO administration and multistate wage and hour compliance is required. Attention to detail and project management skills matter, and experience with vendors, brokers, severance and international employment is a plus.

Duties include benefits administration, semi-monthly payroll reconciliation, HR records, I-9 and E-Verify, background checks, offboarding, regulatory filings such as EEO-1, tracking employment law changes, and managing contractors and international staff through Employer of Record providers.
