Overview
The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is recruiting a Head of Commercial, a senior global leadership role on a full-time, fixed-term two-year contract with the possibility of extension. The position is flexible and open to candidates worldwide, with a preferred location of Bonn, Germany, on a hybrid basis. The Head of Commercial reports to the Director of Marketing and Commercial and leads FSC's global commercial strategy, new market solutions and partnerships in support of responsible forest management.
FSC is one of the world's leading organisations promoting responsible forest management. Its certification system works with businesses, governments, NGOs, Indigenous Peoples and consumers so that forests are managed to protect biodiversity, support communities and preserve natural resources.
What the role involves
The Head of Commercial designs long-term commercial growth plans, identifies emerging market opportunities, develops new business models, drives commercial transformation and uses data and market insight to guide decisions. A major focus is commercial innovation, including Climate and Ecosystem Services business models, digital marketplace solutions, technology-enabled commercial tools, product verification solutions and customer relationship management systems. The role manages relationships with global commercial partners, leads negotiations, represents FSC at strategic forums, leads international teams and manages commercial budgets, financial planning, return on investment and operational efficiency.
Requirements
Applicants need a university degree in business, finance, economics, science, marketing, sustainability or a related field, with a master's or MBA highly desirable. At least 10 years of experience in commercial leadership, consulting, business development or market development is required, including at least 5 years managing international teams. Experience should cover global commercial strategy, revenue growth, market expansion, strategic partnerships, business transformation and international organisations. Experience in sustainability, forestry, ESG, certification, environmental sectors or consumer goods is an advantage. FSC wants an entrepreneurial, analytical, relationship-focused and results-oriented leader with strong negotiation skills.
