Overview

The Early Childhood Funders Collaborative (ECFC) is looking for a Director of the Raising Child Care Fund (RCCF), a remote leadership role. RCCF launched in 2019 and invests in people and organisations working toward a more equitable child care system, supporting grassroots organisers who work alongside parents, early educators, caregivers and child care providers. It has grown from a small group of foundations into a national network supporting organising in 19 states and the District of Columbia, and brings funders together to learn, invest and act more strategically. It is entering a new phase amid a changing political and funding environment, with partners working to advance universal child care, protect public investments, strengthen coalitions and develop community leadership.

What the role involves

The Director gives strategic leadership and shapes the fund's future direction, reporting to the ECFC Executive Director. Areas of leadership include strategy, fundraising, grantmaking, funder engagement, education and relationships with grantees and movement partners. A key priority is financial sustainability: keeping existing philanthropic partners and building relationships with new funders who see how child care connects to economic opportunity, workforce development, racial and gender equity, immigrant justice and family well-being. The Director must make a compelling case for sustained investment in child care organising, judge when philanthropy should lead, convene, use its influence or step back, and steward RCCF's community-led values.

Who can apply

The role suits a senior nonprofit, philanthropic, advocacy or movement leader with experience in philanthropy, grassroots organising, fundraising, grantmaking, movement building or nonprofit leadership. Candidates should value grassroots power building and community leadership, understand both movements and institutional philanthropy, and be able to build alliances. Strong strategic thinking, communication, relationship management and fundraising skills matter.
