Overview
Stand.earth, a nonprofit environmental organisation working in the United States and Canada, is seeking a Data Center Fixed-Term Organizer for its Big Tech team. The role supports community campaigns around data center developments in key regions of the United States and builds a coordinated movement around community power, climate, energy and corporate responsibility. It reports to the Senior Campaigner.
The position is part time at 20 to 32 hours per week, fully remote within the United States, for an initial 12-month term running to the end of September 2027 with possible extension. Candidates near Bellingham, Washington, may also work from the Bellingham office.
What you get
Pay is expected to be $27.64 to $40.87 per hour depending on experience and location, roughly $57,000 to $85,000 annually, prorated for the part-time schedule. Benefits include a medical insurance stipend in place of extended health benefits, four weeks of prorated vacation, mindfulness sessions and professional development. Periodic travel for team meetings, retreats and events may be needed.
What you will do
The organizer maintains relationships with local campaign groups and organizers in important data center locations, reaches out to communities where Stand.earth has no relationships yet, and works with communities to understand needs and find ways to help. The role supports campaign strategy through planning, logistics, communications, messaging and resource sharing, represents the organisation with local allies, handles budgeting and payments or reimbursements for campaign activities, supports volunteers, and manages one or two part-time local organizers. Some meetings may fall in evenings or weekends.
Requirements
Applicants need three to five years of community, local or regional organizing experience, including relevant volunteer work. Environmental or social justice campaign experience and experience with public, corporate-focused campaign strategies are preferred, as are digital campaigning skills. Strong relationship-building, written English, and an understanding of equity, racial justice and community-centred organizing are expected. Candidates should have access to a car and be willing to travel to communities and attend meetings outside standard hours.
