City of Boston Special Projects Fellow 2026–2027: Apply for a One-Year Public Service Fellowship
Overview
The City of Boston is recruiting a Special Projects Fellow for the Office of Youth Engagement and Advancement, part of the Department of Human Services. The post is a one-year rotating, full-time fellowship with one opening, based at the Central Office. It pays $25 per hour for 35 hours per week. The office works to give young people meaningful roles in decisions affecting them, across three areas: spaces and programmes for young people, adults and professionals who work with them, and young people themselves.
What the role involves
The Fellow oversees rotating and seasonal projects from planning through implementation and follow-up, tracking timelines, deliverables and documentation, and keeping project files and shared resources organised. The role includes building relationships with city agencies, schools, community organisations and other partners, supporting youth outreach, focus groups, listening sessions and community meetings, and handling logistics such as purchasing, reserving spaces and event arrangements. The Fellow also helps track project budgets, invoices and procurement with office staff, connects speakers of other languages with translation and language services, attends staff meetings and training, and is expected to show professionalism and discretion when working with young people and city employees.
Requirements
The City requires a minimum of two years of full-time experience, or equivalent part-time experience. The position suits someone organised and proactive who enjoys coordinating projects, communicating with different stakeholders and working with diverse communities in Boston.
Key dates
The application deadline is January 29, 2027.
