Capgemini is hiring a Microsoft Senior SQL Database Administrator in Cardiff, UK. The full-time, senior position involves managing SQL Server databases across development, testing and production environments and acting as a subject matter expert alongside development, infrastructure and production support teams. The work also touches Azure SQL, Power BI and Microsoft Fabric, with an emphasis on security, availability, performance and automation.
The working pattern is hybrid, combining Capgemini offices, client sites and home, though employees cannot work from home all the time.
Duties include configuring and maintaining database servers, monitoring health, performance and availability, diagnosing complex issues, supporting production systems and incidents, and helping developers with query tuning, indexing strategies and schemas. The administrator also improves and automates maintenance, performs scheduled maintenance and release deployments, assesses risks of high-impact changes, maintains security and access controls, supports auditing and data-protection needs, applies data-modelling techniques, manages Power BI environments, data sources and gateways, and mentors junior administrators and developers.
Requirements
Capgemini wants proven experience administering Microsoft SQL Server across multiple environments, including monitoring and performance tuning with tools such as Query Store, DMVs and Extended Events. Other technical areas are backups and restores, recovery models and RPO and RTO requirements, high availability and disaster recovery with Always On Availability Groups, failover clustering and log shipping, encryption, role-based access control, auditing, Windows Server, Active Directory, Azure SQL Database and Managed Instance, Azure storage, PowerShell, Infrastructure as Code and DevOps and CI/CD practices. Knowledge of ISO 27001, SOC 2 and GDPR is relevant. Preferred certifications are DP-300, DP-900, DP-600 and an Azure security certification such as AZ-500.
Security Check (SC) clearance is required. Candidates seeking it must have lived continuously in the United Kingdom for the previous five years, and some roles carry nationality restrictions. Pre-employment checks cover identity, nationality or immigration status, three years of employment history and an unspent criminal record check.
