Proudly South African is recruiting a Chief Officer: Marketing and Communications, reference CMO2026. The executive-level post is a three-year fixed-term contract based at the organisation's offices in Rosebank, South Africa, and reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer. The total cost to company is R1,700,000 to R1,900,000 per year.
The Chief Officer provides strategic leadership across marketing, communications and sector-specific initiatives, keeping the brand visible, relevant and competitive and aligned with organisational goals. The role takes part in executive-level business planning and supplies market intelligence to support decisions.
What the role involves
Responsibilities include developing the overall marketing and communications strategy and tracking industry trends and market data. The Chief Officer oversees campaigns across platforms, from planning and evaluating briefs to managing agencies, creative production and performance monitoring, and strengthens the digital communication infrastructure used to engage and attract members. The role also oversees the internal brand management and design studio, leads public relations across print, broadcast and digital media, builds relationships with members and prospects, and speaks at forums and conferences.
Other duties cover flagship events and exhibitions, securing corporate sponsorships, preparing annual income and expenditure forecasts, managing the departmental budget, assessing campaign returns, and managing risks such as brand compliance, reputation, stock control and team travel safety. The Chief Officer also leads and develops the marketing team and commissions market research on brand health and public awareness.
Requirements
Applicants need a Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications or a related field, with a postgraduate qualification as an advantage. They need 10 to 15 years of relevant experience, including at least five years at executive or senior management strategic level. Experience in marketing and communications departments in both the private and public sectors is an advantage. A valid driver's licence, own vehicle and willingness to travel are required.
