Barclays Internships 2026: Paid Internship Opportunities, Eligibility, Benefits and How to Apply
Overview
Barclays runs internship programmes that place students on real projects across the bank, with areas including investment banking, markets, research, risk, technology, finance, operations, human resources and private banking. Interns are given genuine responsibility and are supported by a people leader, a buddy and a mentor.
There are two main routes. Summer internships give an in-depth introduction to one business area. Off-cycle internships usually run three to six months and are offered in areas such as Investment Banking and Quantitative Analytics, with training before structured, project-based work. Current examples include a London Banking Summer Internship Programme 2027 and a Capital Markets Summer Internship Programme 2027 in London.
What you get
Interns receive training, mentoring, networking opportunities and professional development, and can join social and, depending on the programme, community or volunteering activities. Work varies by role. Investment banking interns may contribute to live transactions, financial modelling, valuation and due diligence. Research interns analyse industry trends and company financials alongside senior analysts, while risk interns may encounter credit, market, operational, climate and treasury risk. Pay is not set at one universal level and varies by programme, location and role.
Who can apply
Eligibility depends on the specific internship, location and business area. Applicants do not need to have studied finance, although some technical roles require particular backgrounds. Useful qualities include analytical thinking, communication, teamwork, problem-solving, commercial awareness and adaptability.
Summer internships are not offered to first-year undergraduates, who are encouraged to explore Barclays Insight Opportunities. Fluent English is required for every role, and local-language ability can matter for client-facing positions.
