Associate Scientist – In Vivo Neuroscience
Overview
Meridial is seeking an Associate Scientist for In Vivo Neuroscience to join its experimental team in London. The position involves hands-on laboratory work contributing to the development of advanced three-dimensional imaging and photostimulation technologies for circuit mapping in the central nervous system. The role is offered as a full-time, permanent contract requiring an on-site presence of four to five days per week, with an anticipated start date around March 2027.
Who can apply
Applicants should hold a degree in neuroscience or a related discipline, or possess equivalent research experience. Candidates ideally bring three or more years of hands-on experience conducting in vivo neuroscience experiments in mice. Individuals should demonstrate a strong commitment to animal welfare and the principles of replacement, reduction, and refinement. Those who do not currently hold a UK Home Office Personal Licence must be willing to complete the necessary training prior to starting, with costs covered by the employer. Visa sponsorship and relocation support may be considered for exceptional candidates.

Mentoring and hands-on training are provided by more senior scientists.
Requirements
Essential qualifications include demonstrated experience performing survival stereotaxic surgery in mice, encompassing intracranial viral injections and cranial-window implantation for chronic imaging. Candidates must have substantial practical experience using in vivo two-photon microscopy to acquire functional neural data, along with familiarity regarding viral-vector and genetic approaches for studying neural circuits. Additional requirements include strong organisational skills, careful record-keeping abilities, and the capacity to troubleshoot technical procedures. Desirable attributes comprise expertise in longitudinal or subcellular two-photon imaging, optogenetics, histology, intracellular electrophysiology, head-fixed behaviour, microscope alignment, Python or MATLAB, and a current UK Home Office Personal Licence.
How to apply
Applications must be submitted by the closing date of 28 December 2026, using a curriculum vitae and a cover letter.
