Overview

The Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime (GI-TOC) is hiring an Analyst for Forest Crime Investigations in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. GI-TOC is an independent civil society organization based in Geneva, set up in 2013, with a Secretariat in 42 countries and more than 750 independent experts. The home-based post is for a professional based in Kinshasa and sits within the NICFI-funded initiative From Roots to Enrichment, which runs from 2026 to 2029. It addresses criminally driven deforestation, illegal mining, illegal timber exploitation and related illicit financial flows in the Congo Basin.

What you will do

The analyst conducts investigations into illegal mining, illegal timber activity and associated financial flows, using open-source intelligence, corporate registries, satellite imagery, trade data and field research. They map criminal actors, routes, corporate structures and financial enablers, coordinate with consortium partners, support field missions, review partner investigations and produce intelligence reports, case studies and risk typologies. They also act as a working-level contact with law enforcement, environmental and judicial institutions in the DRC, turn findings into briefings, case files and referrals, track policy and enforcement changes, and contribute to investigations and remote monitoring related to Gabon.

Requirements

Applicants need three to five years of relevant experience in areas such as investigations, intelligence, organized crime, environmental crime, mining, corruption, journalism, law enforcement, regulation or think-tank research. Strong open-source investigation skills, including corporate tracing, satellite imagery interpretation and evidence verification, are essential, along with understanding of the DRC's law enforcement, prosecutorial and environmental governance systems. Fluency in French and English is required, and Lingala or Swahili is an advantage. The candidate must work independently in politically sensitive settings and protect sources and information.

What you get

The contract is one year, fixed-term, with possible renewal, and may involve fieldwork. GI-TOC states it offers a flexible working environment.

How to apply

Applications go through GI-TOC's recruitment system, which uses BambooHR.
