Overview

The United Nations World Food Programme provides various career opportunities for professionals, students, graduates, and individuals interested in humanitarian work and international development. Working toward the advancement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the end of hunger, the organisation recruits individuals across different professional backgrounds to support its global operations. Opportunities are available across WFP headquarters, regional bureaux, and country offices.

Who can apply

Different programmes cater to varying experience levels and backgrounds. The Junior Professional Officer Programme targets young professionals, primarily from donor countries, who hold an advanced university degree and professional experience. The internship programme welcomes current university students and recent graduates who have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies. The fellowship programme is designed for Master and PhD students, graduates, researchers, and professors with relevant technical expertise who are sponsored by an eligible organization. Volunteer assignments are open to individuals aged 18 and above with legal residency in the assignment country. International professional positions are open to candidates of all nationalities, while National Professional Officers serve in their home country.

What you get

Selected participants gain practical experience across country offices, regional bureaux, and headquarters. Interns receive a monthly stipend of up to US$1,000, medical and accident insurance, travel benefits for eligible developing economy nationals studying at home, official holidays, sick leave, visa support, and training access. Volunteers receive medical insurance coverage, travel expense coverage when required for the assignment, and access to training resources. United Nations Volunteers receive allowances and benefits following United Nations standards.

Requirements

Applicants generally need fluency in English and proficiency in Windows MS Office. Knowledge of additional official languages including French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, and Portuguese serves as an advantage. Junior Professional Officers generally need an advanced university degree and at least two years of relevant professional experience. Internship applicants must be enrolled in or recently graduated from a recognized university within specific timeframes and must not have immediate relatives working for the organisation. Volunteer candidates must possess legal residency status in the country of assignment and intercultural collaboration skills.

How to apply

Interested individuals can explore available vacancies through the official WFP careers platform and the UN Volunteers website. Applicants must review individual vacancy announcements carefully to check specific qualifications, experience levels, contract conditions, locations, and deadlines.
