Overview

The United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG) has an internship for a Travel Document Client Services Intern, based in Geneva, Switzerland, and lasting 6 months. The placement sits in the Travel Document and Client Services Section, part of the Purchase and Transportation Section, Central Support Services, Division of Administration. UNOG is the representative office of the UN Secretary-General in Geneva, housed in the Palais des Nations, and is the largest UN office away from Headquarters in New York.

The intern supports the section in designing, producing and sharing public information materials using multimedia and digital tools. The main task is turning existing procedural content into clear, user-friendly information packages, with the aim of helping clients understand the process and making fewer application errors.

Under the supervision of the Section Chief, duties may include analysing current workflows and common client pain points, producing infographics, short explainer videos and interactive guides, using AI-assisted tools for content generation, video editing and voiceover, building clickable PDFs or simple decision trees, updating the section's intranet page, and gathering feedback on new materials. General support with communication and administrative tasks may also be required.

Who can apply

Applicants should show a real interest in the work of the United Nations. Backgrounds in media production, social sciences, information technology or related fields are encouraged, and experience in digital communications, graphic design, multimedia production or AI-assisted content creation is an advantage. No professional work experience is required, but the field of study must be closely related to the internship.

Requirements

Candidates must either be enrolled in or have completed a graduate programme (a second university degree or higher), or be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree programme at Bachelor's level or equivalent. The degree should be in media production, social sciences, information technology or a related field. Applicants state which criterion they meet and attach proof, and an official certificate is required later.

What you get

The internship is unpaid. Travel, visa, accommodation and living costs are the responsibility of the intern or their sponsoring institution. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of Switzerland may need a visa and work authorisation.

How to apply

Applications are made through the UN Careers portal under Job Opening ID 284316, using the online application form. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and only shortlisted candidates are contacted. The United Nations does not charge a fee at any stage of recruitment, and there is no internal referral, priority or fast-track route.
