UNFCCC Internship 2027: Climate Policy and Article 6 Opportunity
Overview
The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is offering three internship positions in its Article 6 Capacity Building Unit, part of the Mitigation Division, in Bonn, Germany. The unit helps Parties implement Article 6 of the Paris Agreement by strengthening institutional infrastructure, technical knowledge, information systems and capacity-building approaches. The internship starts on January 11, 2027 and lasts six months, full-time at 40 hours per week.
The preferred arrangement is onsite in Bonn, though flexible options may allow partly or fully remote work where appropriate.
What you do
Interns support the logistics and administration of meetings, workshops, webinars, conferences, missions and training, and help with collaboration among UNFCCC units, Regional Collaboration Centres and external partners. They collect, consolidate, analyze and present information on Article 6 participation and implementation and may track capacity-building initiatives, needs and best practices. They also help produce newsletters, articles, blogs, social media content, guidebooks, manuals, infographics, podcasts, videos and online courses.
Who can apply
Applicants must be enrolled in a graduate programme at a recognized university, or be in the final year of a first university degree at bachelor's level or equivalent. Relevant fields include environmental policy, international development, political science, economics and communications. Fluent spoken and written English is required, and other UN languages are an advantage. Experience in project or event management, communications or digital knowledge materials is desirable.
What you get
The internship is unpaid. Interns cover all their own costs, including medical insurance, and are not UNFCCC staff members. Remote interns need a suitable computer with Windows 10 or newer or the latest macOS, reliable high-speed internet, up-to-date antivirus software and a mobile phone for multifactor authentication. UNFCCC supplies an Office 365 license.
