UAV Engineer Working Student (All Genders)
Overview
Stark, operating under Skdse, is seeking a UAV Engineer Working Student to join its C-UAS Edge Software engineering team in Ohrdruf, Thuringia. The company develops artificial intelligence-driven technology, autonomous defence systems, and secure platforms to support NATO Allies and partner nations.
In this role, the working student will assist in creating, developing, and evaluating edge software deployed on autonomous unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and counter-unmanned aerial system (C-UAS) hardware. The role involves building C-UAS software modules for embedded Linux and edge processing environments, assisting with sensor fusion, telemetry pipelines, and real-time signal processing, refining algorithms for low-power edge units, and taking part in simulation and live field testing. The student will also collaborate across hardware and software teams and maintain automated tests and technical documentation.
Requirements
Applicants must be currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related technical discipline. The position requires solid programming abilities in C++ or Python, foundational knowledge of Linux, networking protocols, and embedded systems, as well as familiarity with drone flight controllers such as PX4 or ArduPilot, robotics frameworks like ROS or ROS2, or general UAV architectures. Fluency in English and strong communication and teamwork skills are essential.
Because the role involves work within the defence industry, candidates must be eligible to receive and maintain the relevant security clearance. Additional assets include practical experience with flight field testing or hardware-in-the-loop testing, familiarity with edge AI accelerators such as Coral or NVIDIA Jetson, and knowledge of radar, optical sensing, or radio frequency technologies utilized in counter-drone operations.
How to apply
Interested candidates should submit a curriculum vitae written in English.
