Software Engineer Intern (London, United Kingdom) (Summer 2027)
Overview
Figma, whose platform helps teams brainstorm, prototype, turn designs into code and iterate with AI, is offering a Software Engineer internship in London for summer 2027 through its Early Career programme. Interns are embedded in small, collaborative engineering teams, matched according to their skills and interests, and work with a mentor and teammates to ship meaningful features, tools or systems, whether internal infrastructure or user-facing features.
The internship is based at the London Hub, with possible start dates of 3 May, 17 May, 1 June or 14 June.
What you will do
Applicants state their area of interest when applying. The options are Product, which means full-stack user-facing features such as collaboration tools, workflows and growth experiments; Platform and Infrastructure, covering distributed systems, developer tooling and performance work; Security Engineering, covering security systems, detection and privacy features; or Open for those still exploring. Interns join a small team as full members with their own project and mentor, contribute to projects tied to team goals, work with engineers, product managers, designers and QA to break down features and plan timelines, build and maintain tests, features or infrastructure, take part in peer code review and aim to ship their project by the end of the internship. Past projects include diagramming improvements in FigJam, smart selection and shared fonts.
Requirements
Figma looks for experience writing clean code in at least one general-purpose language such as C++, JavaScript, Python or Java, with a solid grasp of data structures and algorithms, plus experience solving technical problems through school, work or personal projects. Experience using AI-assisted development tools to write, debug and optimise code, curiosity about how systems work from infrastructure to interface, and strong communication skills are also expected. Candidates who do not match every point are encouraged to apply.
How to apply
Candidates may submit up to five applications in any rolling 30-day period and cannot reapply to the same role within 90 days of a rejection. Video interviews require cameras to be on, and in-person onboarding is required if hired.
