Overview

Schwarzman Scholars is a fully funded one-year master's programme leading to a Master of Global Affairs at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. It is taught in English and aimed at young leaders who want to understand global affairs, China's place in the world and leadership. Scholars live and study at Schwarzman College, taking courses in areas such as international relations, public policy, and economics and business, alongside lectures, workshops, field trips and cultural experiences. The 2027 intake starts in August 2027.

What you get

The award covers tuition and fees, accommodation, meals, travel to and from Beijing at the start and end of the year, in-country study tours, required course books and supplies, health insurance, a Lenovo laptop and a personal stipend. Candidates invited to interview may receive support for eligible interview travel costs.

Who can apply

Applicants need an undergraduate degree from an accredited institution, or must complete all degree requirements before 1 August 2027. They must be at least 18 and not yet 29 on 1 August 2027. Any undergraduate major is accepted, including business, economics, engineering, science, law, humanities and social sciences. Because teaching is in English, candidates whose undergraduate education was not fully in English may need an approved English test score.

Selection looks mainly at leadership, intellect and character, including initiative, intellectual curiosity, integrity, empathy, resilience and the ability to work across cultures. Strong grades alone do not guarantee selection.

How to apply

Applications are made online in English. Components include academic information, a CV or resume, essays and recommendation letters. Essays should explain leadership experiences, intellectual interests, career ambitions and reasons for applying.

Key dates

The deadline for U.S. and global applicants is 9 September 2026 at 3:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time, and late applications are not accepted.
