Overview

The Quality of Government Institute invites applications for the Quality of Government Institute Internship 2027. This program offers students a chance to experience daily academic work within an international setting. Participants engage with diverse research projects, collaborate with researchers, and attend seminars and events organized by the institute and the Department of Political Science, making the experience particularly relevant for those pursuing an academic career.

The program offers two distinct pathways. The General Research internship involves assisting with research summaries, literature reviews, data analysis, and administrative duties based on current project needs. The Data Internship focuses on technical tasks such as data wrangling and transformation using Python, collecting data from statistical agencies with a focus on local indicators, supporting cleaning and validation pipelines, updating codebooks, verifying source licensing, reporting processing issues, and suggesting workflow improvements.

Who can apply

Applicants must be currently enrolled in a master program that includes an internship option, and must undertake the placement as an integral part of their academic curriculum to earn credits from their home university. Eligible fields of study include Political Science, Global Studies, Data Science, Social Sciences, Economics, Statistics, IT, or a related discipline. Candidates need strong organizational, documentation, and communication skills, high attention to detail, and proficiency in written and spoken English.

Applicants should possess basic to intermediate Python programming abilities, specifically in data manipulation and wrangling, along with familiarity with pandas and standard Python data analysis libraries. Candidates need a basic understanding of data cleaning, validation, quality assurance, structured formats like CSV, Excel, and JSON, and the ability to work with codebooks, metadata, and documentation.
