Migration Policy Institute (MPI) Internships 2027
Overview
The Migration Policy Institute (MPI) Internships 2027 form the Demetrios G. Papademetriou Young Scholars Program, named in honor of MPI's founding president. It has two goals: to harness interns' contributions to MPI's work and to train the next generation of migration and communications leaders. Internships are available in person and remotely, including for people living outside the United States. MPI is committed to recruiting interns who reflect a breadth of experiences, backgrounds and perspectives, and to an inclusive workplace.
Research internships sit within one of five program areas: U.S. Immigration, International Migration, U.S. Immigrant Integration, the Latin America and Caribbean Initiative, which requires written and oral Spanish, and the Refugee and Forced Displacement Initiative. Research interns contribute to MPI research through independent quantitative or qualitative work and policy analysis, write paper drafts and literature summaries, support events, summarize hearings and public or private events, and do light administrative tasks.
The communications internship covers media tracking, social media campaigns and visual assets, help with events, promotion of the Migration Information Source magazine, and short-form writing and possible multimedia editing.
What you get
Full-time interns receive a $1,472 biweekly stipend, and part-time interns a prorated one. Students may arrange academic credit. MPI does not cover relocation expenses.
Who can apply
Current students, college graduates, graduate students and early-career professionals are welcome, as are people without college experience who can show substantial relevant work experience. Minority applicants and those from immigrant or refugee backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.
Requirements
Applicants need not be U.S. citizens but must be U.S. work authorized before the internship begins, unless they live and work outside the United States throughout. MPI cannot sponsor H-1B, J-1, H-3 or F-1 visas. For all positions, applicants must be at least a junior in college with excellent oral and written communication skills. Foreign languages, proficiency in Office and other software, and strong quantitative skills are helpful.
