Overview

Graphcore offers a 12-week summer internship for students and individuals to gain hands-on engineering experience within the Product Test and Diagnosis team. Based in Bristol, UK, the programme runs starting in June 2027 and allows participants to work on real projects involving advanced AI hardware, silicon, boards, server blades, and rack-scale systems. Interns receive guidance from experienced engineers while developing technical judgement, exploring semiconductor test strategies, and connecting their studies with practical hardware.

Who can apply

Applicants must currently be studying for a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or a related field, or possess equivalent experience. Candidates are required to have an understanding of electronics or printed circuit board fundamentals alongside an interest in semiconductor technology, manufacturing, test, or validation. Programming or scripting experience, ideally with Python, is necessary, and applicants must already hold the right to work in the UK for the full duration of the programme without requiring visa sponsorship.

What you get

The internship provides a salary of £2500 per month over the 12-week duration. Participants receive 5 days of annual leave, flexible working options, and access to the online learning platform O'Reilly. On-site benefits in Bristol include collaborative office spaces, free food, ice cream, and an on-site barista. Successful performance may also lead to potential opportunities to join a graduate programme after graduation.

Requirements

Candidates must demonstrate the ability to use data to investigate problems and communicate findings through practical work involving electronics, embedded systems, validation, or automation. Previous industry experience is not required, but applicants should share details about what they have built or investigated through university projects, laboratory work, research, or personal projects. Familiarity with Linux, Bash, or Git is considered a useful additional strength rather than an essential requirement.

How to apply

Applications require candidates to answer application questions and upload both a CV and a cover letter by the application deadline. The outcome of applications will be communicated by early December at the latest. Successful applicants at that stage will be invited to complete a technical assessment, followed by in-person assessments in early spring for candidates who reach the final stage.

Key dates

The programme starts in June 2027 and lasts for 12 weeks. The application deadline is midnight on 29th November. Applicants are informed of their application outcome by early December at the latest, with final-stage in-person assessments taking place in early spring.
