Overview

The Microelectronics Winter Camp 2027 is a six-week research internship run by King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) at its campus in Thuwal, Saudi Arabia. It runs from January 4 to February 11, 2027, and there is no application or participation fee. Interns lead research projects in microelectronics under the guidance of senior faculty and industry professionals.

Alongside the project work, participants join workshops and technical training on current technologies, attend side sessions that build research skills, and design a gadget prototype linked to their assigned project. The camp closes with an e-poster competition, and social events are organised throughout the stay.

Who can apply

The camp is open to undergraduate and master's students from any country. Eligible candidates are recent graduates, senior undergraduates or current master's students in electrical and computer engineering or related disciplines. A CGPA of at least 3.5 out of 4.00 is expected, together with excellent English and a genuine interest in research. Candidates must also pass interviews with KAUST faculty and administration.

What you get

Selected interns receive a stipend to cover living expenses, free accommodation on the KAUST campus, and logistics and visa support. They also gain access to the university's research facilities. Those who complete all six weeks are awarded a certificate of completion.

How to apply

Applications are made through the PlutoEdu portal. Applicants create an account, enter the verification code sent to their email, and then fill in the online form. It covers personal and contact details, education and experience, publications, grant and funding information, awards, online profiles, a short research summary, skills and career interests. Applicants also rank up to three hosting faculty members in order of preference.

The documents required, all uploaded as PDF files, are an updated CV, official current transcripts of the latest degree in English, and a copy of the passport for non-Saudi applicants or the national ID for Saudi applicants.
