Overview

Human Rights Watch is looking for an intern for its Stockholm office, assisting mainly the Advocacy Department and also the Development and Outreach Department. The internship is full-time at 35 hours per week for 20 weeks, starting in mid-January 2027. It is unpaid, and interns must be enrolled university students throughout. The Stockholm team is based at Norrsken House in central Stockholm.

The internship suits people who want experience in a global human rights organisation within a national country office. Interns take part in a wide range of human rights activities and learn how the organisation works through communication, advocacy, fundraising, outreach and events. They can attend lectures, trainings, workshops and special events and network with other interns, volunteers and staff.

What you will do

Tasks vary with the intern's interests and abilities. Main duties include monitoring global developments and preparing materials that support advocacy work, helping plan, organise and evaluate events, and taking part in briefings with decision-makers and other stakeholders. The intern also supports the fundraising team by researching possible sources of income such as foundations and corporate partners, helps spread research and recommendations through targeted communications for decision-makers and the public, and contributes content for the Swedish digital channels, including social media, newsletters and the website.

Who can apply

Interns in Sweden must be enrolled students for the whole internship term. Coursework in communications, media, political science, law or human rights is preferred, but other profiles are welcome. Applicants should be well-organised, creative, curious, flexible and detail-oriented with good time management. Ideal candidates enjoy writing, express themselves well in Swedish and English, show interest in human rights, communication, social media or fundraising, and know Word and Excel. Team experience is desirable.

How to apply

Applicants submit a CV and a letter of interest, in English or Swedish. Only complete applications are reviewed, and only shortlisted candidates are contacted.
