Overview

Isar Aerospace SE, a privately funded New Space company developing launch solutions for small and medium-sized satellites into Low Earth Orbit, is offering a 12-month internship as Propulsion Test Engineer in Kiruna, Sweden, within the Spectrum AIT department. The team carries out development and verification tests on liquid rocket engines and their subsystems, and looks after test preparation, maintenance and upgrades of the test bench. Candidates who are ideally available for a six-month period are also considered.

The company offers relocation help, including housing in Kiruna.

What you will do

The intern plans and conducts rocket engine test campaigns together with propulsion development engineers, ensures safe operations by using and developing procedures and processes, and takes care of test preparation, troubleshooting, upgrades and maintenance of the test bench, both on paper and in reality. The intern also assists in designing and building test benches for propulsion testing.

Requirements

Applicants should be enrolled in an engineering bachelor's or master's degree in aerospace, mechanical engineering or a similar field. First hands-on experience in developing or testing complex systems is expected, preferably under extreme conditions such as cryogenic temperatures, high pressures or high temperatures, and this may come from jobs, internships, clubs or other extracurricular activities. Candidates should be able to design fluid and mechanical systems from concept to commissioning, stay focused for long periods in high-stress environments and work in confined spaces, and must be able to lift and carry 25 kilograms. Fluent English is required. Hands-on experience with fluid systems and piping, experience with a programming language such as Python, Matlab or C, and knowledge of hazardous systems are bonus skills.

Due to security clearance requirements, affiliations with certain countries listed in German security legislation may affect the application process.
