Pulitzer Center Gender Equality Grant 2026 (up to $5,000)
Overview
The Pulitzer Center Gender Equality Grant 2026 is offered by the Pulitzer Center, a non-profit organization that supports independent global journalism. It seeks investigative, data-driven projects on gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls. Women and girls are disproportionately affected by global crises and face discrimination and violence worldwide, while also showing resilience, strength and leadership.
The grant is meant to help journalists take their reporting on these issues to a new level. The Center values stories that elevate the voices of communities not often represented in the media, stories of resilience, and projects that tackle systemic issues of gender equality using data and investigative reporting.
What you get
The average Pulitzer Center grant is $5,000, but it may be more or less depending on circumstances.
Who can apply
The opportunity is open to all newsrooms and independent journalists, in the United States and abroad. Freelance journalists, staff journalists and groups of newsrooms working together on a project idea can all submit proposals. The Center wants people from many backgrounds and perspectives to be able to produce journalism, and strongly encourages proposals from journalists and newsrooms representing a broad range of social, racial, ethnic, underrepresented and economic backgrounds.
How to apply
Applicants provide a description of the proposed project in no more than 250 words, a preliminary budget estimate with a basic breakdown of costs, and a distribution plan. Applications are submitted online and are accepted on a rolling basis.
