Planet Health Film Fund 2027 (£20,000 award)
Overview
The Planet Health Film Fund 2027 is launched by Earthrise and Bupa, in partnership with sustainability partner BAFTA Albert and SXSW London. The initiative supports five filmmakers in producing original short documentaries that investigate the connections between human health and environmental health. Eligible projects focus on authored narratives examining how people stay healthy and connected to nature within an increasingly urbanised and rapidly changing world.
Who can apply
International applicants aged 18 or older are eligible to apply. The lead applicant must serve as the director of the proposed film, though co-directors are permitted if one person is nominated as the lead. Individuals are restricted to a single entry as either a lead director or co-director. Applicants must also possess a legally registered production company at the time of application, as funds cannot be disbursed directly to individuals.
What you get
Five selected filmmakers will each receive an award of £20,000 to produce a 10-minute documentary accompanied by related social content. This funding must cover the entire cost of production, delivery of the film, and support materials. Projects are not permitted to use additional production finance and must be achievable within the allocated budget and delivery schedule.
Requirements
Applicants are required to have previously directed at least one completed documentary, whether short or feature-length, or a comparable authored non-fiction work. This prior work must have been selected for a recognised film festival, or commissioned or distributed by an established broadcaster, editorial, or documentary platform.
Key dates
Applications close at 6pm GMT on November 16, 2026. Late submissions will not be considered.
