IUCN World Protected and Conserved Areas Congress 2027 Opens Call for Content: Submit Your Research, Ideas and Solutions
Overview
The IUCN World Protected and Conserved Areas Congress 2027 has opened its Call for Content, inviting individuals and organisations globally to contribute to the Technical Programme. The international Congress is designed to address the challenges and opportunities facing protected and conserved areas worldwide through an action-oriented, forward-looking approach focused on solutions, innovation, evidence, and practical recommendations. The event takes place from 4–10 September 2027 in Panama City, Panama.
Who can apply
Submissions are open to researchers, conservation practitioners, Indigenous Peoples and local communities, young professionals, civil society organisations, academics, governments, public institutions, private-sector representatives, financial-sector stakeholders, and other interested individuals and institutions. Applicants can submit proposals in English, French, or Spanish. Training or capacity-development activities must be submitted through a separate Learning Zone Call for Proposals.
What you get
Successful contributors gain the opportunity to share their research, experiences, evidence, case studies, and solutions in an international forum. Participants can contribute through three formats: 90-minute sessions bringing together different perspectives around a clear question or challenge, approximately 15-minute presentations included in a session organised by another contributor, or e-posters showcased digitally during the Congress and online.
Requirements
Proposals must align with the objectives of one of three Congress themes: Shaping a Resilient Future, Scaling Up Effective and Equitable Conservation, or Conserving Together. Submissions must describe the purpose and expected outcomes, explain the chosen format, and demonstrate how the contribution supports the stream objectives and brings practical value. Proposals should emphasize solutions, innovation, evidence, practical outcomes, recommended actions, diverse perspectives, and equitable participation.
How to apply
Applicants must review the relevant Congress theme and stream along with the published programme content guidelines before submitting. Proposals require describing the purpose, expected outcomes, and format, and demonstrating connection to Congress priorities.
Key dates
The Call for Content opened on 15 October 2026. The application deadline is 15 December 2026. Applicants will be notified of the outcome by 15 March 2027.
