Gauteng College of Nursing Student Nurse Intake 2027: Apply for a Diploma in Nursing in South Africa
Overview
The Gauteng College of Nursing invites eligible candidates to apply for the Student Nurse Intake 2027 to pursue a Diploma in Nursing. The programme takes place across four participating campuses in Gauteng, South Africa, namely the Ann Latsky Campus, Chris Hani Baragwanath Campus, SG Lourens Campus, and Bonalesedi Campus. This training prepares students for careers in the healthcare sector by developing knowledge, practical competencies, and professional values needed to support patient treatment, disease prevention, health education, and community health services.
Who can apply
The opportunity is aimed at South African school leavers, current Grade 12 learners, and eligible candidates who hold the required academic qualifications. Prospective applicants must meet the prescribed admission criteria, though meeting minimum academic requirements does not guarantee admission, as selection depends on college procedures and available places. Desirable personal qualities for aspiring nurses include a passion for healthcare, patience, compassion, strong communication, problem-solving, organizational abilities, leadership, flexibility, calmness during emergencies, numeracy, computer literacy, effective study skills, honesty, and the ability to relate respectfully to others.
Requirements
Applicants must fulfill the academic criteria under one of four recognized qualification routes. Candidates with a Senior Certificate need English, Biology, and Mathematics at Higher Grade D or Standard Grade C, along with a minimum M score of 17. Those with a National Senior Certificate require a level 4 in English, Life Sciences, and Mathematics (or level 5 in Mathematical Literacy), and an Admission Point Score of 27 or higher where Life Orientation counts for half its score. Applicants following the National Vocational Certificate route must achieve at least 50 percent in fundamental subjects comprising English First Additional Language, Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy, and Life Orientation, plus at least 60 percent in vocational subjects including South African Health Care System, Public Health, The Human Body and Mind, and Community Oriented Primary Care. Current Grade 12 learners may apply using their final Grade 11 results if they meet the National Senior Certificate admission requirements.
How to apply
Interested candidates must review the admission requirements to confirm that their qualifications meet the criteria, prepare necessary academic results and supporting documents, and access official application instructions. Applicants must complete the application accurately, provide all required materials in the prescribed format, and verify details and authenticity through official Gauteng Department of Health or Gauteng College of Nursing channels.
