UNFPA Somalia Somali Youth Fellowship Programme (SOYO) Cohort II 2026: 22 Opportunities for Young Somali Graduates
Overview
The United Nations Population Fund in Somalia has launched the second cohort of the Somali Youth Fellowship Programme, seeking 22 young graduates for full-time assignments. The programme provides practical professional experience and workplace learning over a 12-month period. Selected fellows contribute to sustainable development initiatives that support communities across Somalia while engaging in work connected to the mandate of the United Nations Population Fund.
Who can apply
The programme is open to Somali nationals between the ages of 18 and 30 who live in Somalia or belong to the Somali diaspora. Applicants must have completed a bachelor degree in a relevant field specified in the applicable description of assignment. Individuals who participated in the first cohort of the programme are not eligible to apply. The initiative promotes gender balance and the inclusion of persons with disabilities.
What you get
Participants undertake a full-time, 12-month assignment that provides hands-on professional experience to bridge the gap between academic learning and workplace demands. Fellows participate in workplace learning activities designed to complement their practical duties, develop professional skills, improve workplace communication, and familiarize themselves with the operations of development organizations. The programme also provides opportunities to strengthen leadership potential through initiative, collaborative work, and accountability in assigned responsibilities.
Requirements
Applicants must meet the published eligibility requirements, hold a bachelor degree in the appropriate field specified for the individual position, and be available for the entire 12-month duration of the assignment and associated learning activities. Candidates must not have participated in the first cohort of the fellowship. Prospective applicants are required to review the qualifications and responsibilities outlined in each individual description of assignment.
