Two Associate Professorships or Professorships of Computer Science (with Tutorial Fellowships)
Overview
The Department of Computer Science at the University of Oxford is expanding and wants to appoint two full-time Associate Professors or Professors of Computer Science, starting on 1 September 2027. The department is based in the Wolfson Building on Parks Road in Oxford. Each post comes with a college role: one with a Tutorial Fellowship at Wadham College and the other with an Official Studentship at Christ Church, which is the Christ Church equivalent of a Tutorial Fellowship.
Duties include original research in computer science, securing funding for the department's research, teaching and supervision for the department and the college, and trustee duties as a member of the college's Governing Body. Oxford uses the grade of Associate Professor for most academic appointments, which can include researchers at the start of their careers as well as more established ones.
Requirements
Applicants should hold a doctoral degree in computer science or a closely related discipline, be able to teach across a range of computer science subjects, and have a proven research record of internationally high quality. They should show a high standard of research potential and achievement for their experience, and the ability to inspire undergraduate and graduate students through tutorials, classes, lectures and supervision.
What you get
The combined university and college salary is between 57,986 and 77,366 pounds per year, plus substantial additional benefits. The posts become permanent upon completion of a successful review conducted during the first 5 years.
How to apply
All applicants are automatically considered for both posts, so no particular college should be mentioned in the application.
Key dates
The closing date is 12 noon on 16 December 2026. Shortlisted candidates give online research talks on 16 and 17 February 2027 and online teaching presentations on 23 and 24 February 2027. In-person interviews are on 16 March 2027 for Christ Church and 17 March 2027 for Wadham College.
