Overview

The Without Borders Media Fellowship 2026, organised by Médecins Sans Frontières, also known as Doctors Without Borders, is a four-month programme designed to support journalists, photographers, filmmakers, digital media influencers, and newsroom editors. The initiative provides funding and mentorship to produce in-depth stories on humanitarian crises, public health challenges, access to healthcare, social inequality, environmental change, migration, and medical services across South Asia. Participants complete a substantial reporting project in collaboration with MSF South Asia and their mentors.

Who can apply

The fellowship is open to journalists of all nationalities working across South Asia who possess at least three years of professional experience. Eligible applicants include staff and freelance journalists, print and online reporters, photojournalists, audio and video journalists, digital media influencers, and newsroom editors. Former fellows are also eligible to apply. Applications must be submitted in English, and participants are encouraged to publish their stories in local languages in their respective regions where appropriate.

What you get

Selected fellows receive financial support for reasonable and detailed reporting budgets covering travel and field visits, alongside professional mentorship from experienced journalists and subject-matter specialists. Participants also receive training, access to MSF medical and operational experts, knowledge sharing regarding the MSF model of care, and potential publication opportunities for multimedia features on the MSF South Asia website.
